Karen Marx Arch is an interdisciplinary Architecture and Design studio focused on small-scale commercial and residential architecture led by Karen Marx. Karen received her Bachelor and Master of Arts in Architecture from Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark in 2013. Throughout her career, Karen has worked at multiple award-winning architecture and design studios. Following an internship at Lot-ek Design and Architecture in NYC, Karen returned to New York in 2013 to work for Vamos Architects in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Over the course of her work with Vamos, Karen designed and managed multiple commercial and retail projects in NYC. After relocating to the west coast in 2019, Karen worked with renowned Portland firm Fieldwork Design & Architecture. For Fieldwork Karen has designed and managed residential projects in Portland and the Willamette Valley. In 2020 Karen Marx Arch was founded when Karen and her husband bought an old butchery on the island of Samsø in Denmark. Karen continues to work remotely with Fieldwork Design and is also taking on local projects. Throughout the course of her career, Karen has collaborated on projects that seek to extend into other areas of the art and design world. Karen Marx Arch will continue to be exploratory in its nature and expand the traditional architecture practice with spatial and human interaction through objects, exhibitions, and installations.
